Introduction – An Essex-based 360 Marketing agency
If you thought the market was rough ten years ago, try building a marketing agency in 2025.
Today, competition is everywhere. At the same time, attention spans are shorter, budgets are tighter, and AI has reshaped the creative industry. Because of this, starting a marketing agency can feel risky. However, Peak X was built during this exact climate and still reached five figures in less than a year.
This is not a polished success story. Instead, it is an honest account of what worked, what failed, and why consistency mattered more than confidence.
How Peak X, our very own marketing agency, started
We have already explained who we are in more detail in another blog, so if you want more background, you can read that here.
In reality, Peak X did not begin in February 2025, even though that is what Companies House shows. Planning actually started in August 2024. At that point, Callum approached me with growing frustration about the creative industry and the direction many marketing agencies were heading.
Specifically, he was tired of seeing agencies rely on AI generated graphics and shortcuts. As a result, creativity had become templated and lifeless. Large agencies were moving faster than ever, but the care had disappeared.
Naturally, I agreed.
While I appreciate how accessible technology has become for the next generation, something important has been lost. Back in the 2010s, learning creative skills took time. Mistakes were part of the process. Because my first projects were claymations, I learned early that effort does not always equal recognition.
However, AI removes the struggle entirely. It also removes the learning. Over time, it strips away the love that makes creative work meaningful, especially inside modern marketing agencies.
Because of this, when Callum asked if I wanted to help bring that love back, the answer was simple.
I said yes.
Initially, I offered to work for free. Instead, he insisted on a fifty fifty partnership. From that moment, Peak X became real.
The First Challenge: Starting Behind
Starting a creative marketing agency in 2025 is not easy.
In Braintree, agencies like Wingman MSP Marketing and Social Land have dominated for more than a decade. Meanwhile, in Southend, companies such as Rivie Digital and 6 Red Squares have been established since I first discovered graphic design.
Because of this, we knew we were behind before we even launched our marketing agency.
Rather than trying to outspend or outshout established agencies, we focused on what we could control. By combining website design and social media management, we delivered results at the same level without bloated processes. As a result, Peak X was able to compete with larger marketing agencies through execution, not reputation.
Ultimately, doing fewer things properly mattered more than doing everything.
The Second Challenge: Being New
Trust is difficult to earn in marketing.
Many businesses have been burned by agencies that overpromise and underdeliver. Because Peak X was a new marketing agency and part time at first, scepticism was expected. However, instead of relying on sales pitches, we let consistency do the talking.
So, we posted content every single day in 2025.
At first, it felt extreme. Over time, it became proof. Because we committed fully to our own marketing agency brand, potential clients could see that we would commit to theirs. As a result, consistency turned into credibility.
The Third Challenge: Having No Work
This is a problem many creatives face, but few talk about openly.
Most creative roles include non compete clauses or restrictions on freelance work. At the same time, creative jobs are becoming harder to secure. Studies consistently show that Gen Z creatives face higher competition and fewer entry level opportunities than previous generations.
Because of this, starting a marketing agency without an existing portfolio becomes even harder.
We faced the same issue. Since we could not use work from our current employers, we had no portfolio to show. Instead of waiting, we created our own solution.
We called it the Emergency Plan.
Every service at Peak X was offered at cost or close to free until five successful projects were completed. Website design, hosting, SEO, and social media all followed the same rule.
The goal was not profit.
The goal was proof.
Once a service reached five successful projects, pricing increased to its real value. After that, the same process was repeated across the marketing agency. As a result, Peak X built trust quickly without breaking ethical boundaries.
The Fourth Challenge: No marketing agency USP
It did not take long to realise that simply existing was not enough.
The most successful marketing agencies break the mould. For example, Paul Green did not just offer MSP marketing. Instead, he created a subscription model that generated long term recurring income from repeatable work.
That forced us to ask an important question.
What makes Peak X different as a marketing agency?
The Peak X USP – the best one out of all the marketing agencies
Our USP is transparency, measurable KPIs, and care.
Most marketing agencies hide pricing behind contact forms. In contrast, Peak X displays pricing clearly on every service page. There are no vague answers and no forced calls. Anyone can see what we charge before starting a conversation.
In addition, we work towards defined KPIs. Creative work often suffers from loose timelines and unclear expectations. Because of my background in the MSP industry, we approach our marketing agency work with structure, fast turnaround times, and clear response targets.
As a result, clients know exactly what to expect.
Why We Care
Finally, we care because this is personal.
We have been creatives for over twelve years. For eleven of those years, we made little to no money from it. That is more than a decade spent doing the work purely for the love of it.
Because of that journey, running a marketing agency like Peak X still feels unreal. Every project matters. Every small business win matters. Helping others grow through creativity is something we do not take for granted.
Peak X is not just a marketing agency.
Ultimately, it is proof that creativity still has value.
